Kogi election was civil war – Dino Melaye

Dino Melaye

Senator Dino Melaye has said that he would report Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and several others to the international community and then to the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the violence that occurred during the November 16 elections.

Melaye lost his nephew in the violence after gunmen opened fire at his Aiyetoro ward.

The lawmaker said in a tweet on Tuesday that he would take the matter up to the international community, saying the exercise in Kogi was a civil war, not an election.

“What we had in Kogi is no election, what we had was a civil war that has claimed 16 lives so far. I will report Bello, Smart Adeyemi, Taofik, Speaker Kolawole and Sunday Faleke to the international community and then proceed to Hague. This I promise,” he wrote.

Bello was on Monday declared winner of the governorship election while Kogi West senatorial rerun election, which was held simultaneously on November 16, was declared inconclusive.

Melaye, a member of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is being challenged for Kogi West senatorial seat by Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
