Kidnappers release wife of Nigerian midfielder, Fegor Ogude

Wife of Super Eagles midfielder, Fegor Ogude, Memunat, has regained her freedom from kidnappers.

Memunat was abducted from her family home in Warri, Delta State a few days ago.

Media Officer of Nigeria’s U-23 team, Timi Ebikagboro, however, confirmed her release on Sunday night.

“To God be the glory, the wife of SE player Fegor Ogude, Memunat, has been released, she was released minutes ago, and is now with her family,” Ebikagboro wrote in a message posted on Twitter.

It is not certain if the Amkar Perm player or any of his relative paid any ransom to secure her release.

General Manager at his Russian club, Igor Rezvuhin, had earlier confirmed that the abductors contacted the player about a ransom.

“The criminals have asked for a ransom but I’m not prepared to discuss exactly how much. We will do everything we can to help the football player get out of the situation,” Rezvuhin was quoted in the Russian media.

Memunat Ogude was with her children and was planning to go for a walk when kidnappers stormed their home..

The unidentified attackers pushed her into a car and then drove away in an unknown direction.

They did not touch the children.

Ogude was absent from home at that moment and found out about the tragic event from his brother.

He said: “I immediately contacted the police. I was trying to find out more about these men, but have not succeeded.”

With the release of his wife, Ogude should now be able to focus on his club’s warm weather training camp billed to take place in Dubai.
