Kidnapped Nsukka Catholic priest regains freedom

Police in Enugu have confirmed the release of the abducted Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Malachi Asadu, serving under the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka.

The priest was kidnapped on Monday along Imilike-Nsukka Road while reportedly returning from a diocesan meeting held at St. Theresa Cathedral, Nsukka.

Enugu police spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, said Fr Asadu was released on Wednesday evening and had been reunited with the diocese.

“The kidnapped Nsukka Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Malachy Asadu, has been released and reunited with the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka this evening,’’ he said.

Mr Amaraizu did not reveal details on the release.

Another abducted Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Theophilus Ndulue, was released and reunited with the Diocese of Enugu 10 days ago.

About a month ago, Rev. Fr. Arinze Madu, Deputy Rector, Queen of the Apostle Spiritual Year Seminary, Imezi Owa in Ezeagu Local Government Area, was released by his abductors.

Fr. Madu was kidnapped at the seminary’s gate on October 29.
