Kidnapped mother-in-law of Katsina governor freed

The police in Katsina have confirmed the release of the mother-in-law to Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State, Hauwa Yusuf.

The 80-year-old woman is the mother of Binta Masari, one of the three wives of the governor.

The gunmen were said to have stormed her residence in Katsina metropolis at about 3 a.m. last Friday, carting away mobile phones.

Katsina police spokesperson, Gambo Isa, said in a statement on Friday that the octogenarian was released by her abductors in the early hours of the day (Friday).

“I am very happy to inform you that the old woman has been released by her abductors in the early hours of the day (Friday).

“She is hale and hearty, and has already been reunited with her family after necessary medical checkup,’’ he said.

Mr Isa did not say if any ransom was paid for her release.

The Katsina police also said it had arrested a notorious member of a kidnap syndicate in Batsari local government area of the state.

The suspect had kidnapped the two wives of one Mustapha Sani, but was apprehended after a combined team of police and vigilante members hunted him swiftly and rescued the women.

“The command will continue to solicit for the cooperation and support of the public in the fight against kidnappers and banditry,’’ the spokesperson said.
