Kidnapped Catholic priest regains freedom in Edo

Police in Edo have rescued a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr Isaac Agubi, who was abducted on Sunday at Ikpeshi after conducting Sunday service.

Fr. Agubi was rescued at Sasaro area in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area after exchange of gunfire with his abductors, Edo Police spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor, said on Tuesday.

Mr Nwabuzor said the priest was rescued around 7:30 pm on Monday.

One of the suspected abductors was arrested with bullet wound.

The spokesman said the priest was rescued unhurt with the help of local hunters and vigilante group during combing-of-the-bush exercise.
