Filmmaker Kayode Peters has been laid to rest in Canada amid tears and emotional scenes from family and friends.
Kayode died on June 28 in Toronto after battling an undisclosed illness. He was 49.
He was buried on Saturday, at the Milton Evergreen Cemetery in Ontario, following a funeral service at McKersie & Early Funeral Home.
A video shared online captured mourners weeping and comforting one another as the actor’s casket was lowered into the ground.
In a statement earlier released by his family, burial rites were scheduled to take place across three countries; Nigeria, the United Kingdom and Canada in honour of his international legacy.
A Night of Tribute was held in Lagos on July 22, followed by another in London on July 29.
Kayode was best known for his work on the TV sitcom My Flatmates as well as other comedy projects like Extended Family, Twilight Zone and Papa Ajasco & Company.
He also directed several feature films including 13 Letters, Crazy Grannies and Dream Job.
In 2024, Kayode won Best Director (International) at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF) for the comedy film Survivors.
Born on September 25, 1975, Kayode studied English at the University of Lagos, where he was a member of the Theatre 15 drama group. He later earned a master’s degree in film and television production from the University of Greenwich in the UK.
He is survived by his wife and children.
