Kanye West hospitalised after meltdown, placed on psychiatric hold

Controversial America rapper, Kanye West, was hospitalised at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles on Monday, according to multiple media reports.

His wife, Kim Kardashian, skipped the Angel Ball in honour of her late father, Robert Kardashian, in New York City to be by his side.

The Angel Ball would have been her first public appearance since the Paris heist on October3, when she was tied up, gagged, held at gunpoint and robbed of millions of dollars of jewellery in her No Address Hotel apartment.

NBC News, citing “multiple authorities familiar with the case,” reported that the 39-year-old Grammy-winning musician remained under observation Monday afternoon after police responded to a medical welfare call.

Though no criminal activity was involved, authorities decided to hospitalise West for his own health and safety.

The cause is unknown, though an unnamed source told People, “He is exhausted and currently dealing with sleep deprivation. He went to the hospital at will under the advice of his physician. He’s fine.”

Though TMZ reported that West was restrained when he brought to the hospital, People’s source claimed that wasn’t the case. “He went freely,” the source said.”

It was earlier reported that the remaining dates of West’s Saint Pablo national tour, which kicked off this past weekend, have been cancelled and “tickets will be fully refunded at point of purchase.”

This comes after a bizarre weekend, in which the rapper cancelled a Sunday makeup concert in Los Angeles hours before it was set to begin.

On Saturday night, West began a concert in Sacramento an hour and a half late, only to halt it after two or three songs (reports vary) and a long, stream-of-consciousness rant.

The rapper had cancelled all remaining dates on his current tour after abandoning a Sacramento performance at the weekend.

He had performed just three songs before embarking on an unscripted rant, criticising Facebook, Jay Z, Beyonce and Hillary Clinton.

He criticised Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg for failing to give him $53m (£42.5m) to get out of debt and said he was hurt that Jay Z failed to visit his family after last month’s robbery.

West then appeared to suggest that Jay Z employed hit men, saying: “Jay Z, I know you got killers, please don’t send them at my head.”

“Get ready to have a field day, press, because the show’s over,” he said, as he dropped his microphone and walked out.
