Kannywood actress Amal Umar

Kannywood actress Amal Umar has been charged to court for allegedly bribing a police officer who was investigating an N40m fraud case against her boyfriend Ramadan Inuwa who has been declared wanted.

Kano State police spokesperson Bashir Mohammed disclosed this in a recent statement to newsmen, adding that Amal boyfriend is currently on the run.

Amal was arraigned on March 19 by the police from Zone 1 Headquarters Kano attached to the zonal intelligence department for allegedly offering N250k to the police officer.

In the statement, tagged “Police arraign Kannywood actress for offering gratification to public servant,” Bashir Mohammed disclosed that Amal offered the bribe in exchange for her car which was seized by the police after she admitted that her boyfriend transferred some of the money into her account.

The statement read: “On the 19th of March 2024, Plice from Zone one headquarters attached to the zonal intelligence department arraigned one Amal Umar, 24 years old who happened to be a popular Kanywood actress, she was arraigned in the court of law for offering gratification to the tune of N250k to her investigative police officer ASP Salusi Kujama who was investigating a case of fraud against her boyfriend which is equally related to her.

“On the 18th of August 2022, a petition was received by the AIG Zone One Headquarters on behalf of one Alhaji Yusuf Adamu who happens to be the complainant who was defrauded of the sum of 40 million naira by one Ramadan Inuwa who collected the money under false pretence of a phone business and absconded with the money.”

Speaking further, Bashir Mohammed said the AIG ordered an investigation into the matter and in the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the suspect transferred 13 million naira from the fraudulent money to his girlfriend Amal which led to her getting invited and questioned by the police and she confessed that her boyfriend sent her the money of which she used some of it to purchase a vehicle.

She was, however, released on bail after denying receiving the 13 million naira but admitted to receiving only 8 million naira. Amal requested the release of her car but the police denied her request which purportedly led to her offering a bribe in exchange for her car.

“She started soliciting that the police should release her car but she was denied, hence she started a discussion that she would pay some money as a bribe to the police to secure the release of her car. Based on that she brought the sum of N250k upon which she was arrested and charged to court for offering gratification to a public officer,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, Amal’s colleagues Ali Nuhu and Maryam Booth have drummed support for her, demanding justice for the 24-year-old.
