Nigeria records 64 new coronavirus cases

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 64 new cases of coronavirus in the country.

This was announced in a Twitter message by the agency on Monday night.

Thirty-four of the new cases were recorded in Lagos, 15 in the Federal Capital Territory and 11 in Borno.

There are now 1337 confirmed cases in Nigeria, out of which 255 have been discharged and 40 dead.

President Muhammadu Buhari earlier on Monday evening announce a gradual easing of lockdown measures in FCT, Lagos and Ogun states effective from May 4, to safeguard the economy.

The president, in a nationwide broadcast, however, said that the current lockdown would remain in place until these new ones come into effect on May 4.

Buhari also announced an overnight curfew from 8 pm to 6 am, saying that all movements would be prohibited during the period except for essential services.
