Mohammed Umar takes over as acting EFCC chairman

Director of Operations at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mohammed Umar, has been named acting chairman of the agency.

A top official of the commission confirmed that Mr Umar has taken charge of the agency in the absence of Ibrahim Magu, NAN reports.

Mr Umar, who is a deputy commissioner of police, is the second most senior operative at the EFCC.

Magu was suspended on Tuesday by President Muhammadu Buhari to face allegations brought against him.

There are reports, however, that the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Bala Ciroma, is in the frontline to be selected as substantive EFCC chairman.
