Publisher of Complete Sports newspapers Sunny Ojeagbase has died at the age of 71.

His son Julius Ojeagbase announced the death of the journalist in a statement on Monday on behalf of the family.

Ojeagbase died on Saturday, February 26, 2022, in Atlanta, United States after a brief illness, the statement said.

Ojeagbase was also the founder of the parent company, Complete Communications Limited, that gave birth to Complete Sports newspapers, SuccessDigest and other online publications.

The Edo State indigene began sports journalism as a correspondent at the Daily Times newspapers in the mid-1970s. In 1980, he was appointed Sunday Concord newspapers’ sports editor at the title’s inception.

In 1983, Ojeagbase was made the pioneer sports editor of The Guardian newspapers. It was from there he introduced several sports titles to the Nigerian market such as Complete Football magazine, Complete Football International, and International Soccer Review.

Ordained a pastor in March 2003, Ojeagbase holds a diploma in journalism from the University of Lagos, but had a honorary doctorate degree conferred on him by another varsity.

He is survived by his wife, Pastor Esther Ojeagbase, children, grandchildren and other relatives.
