Joy in defeat for Ighalo as Tottenham end Watford’s unbeaten run

Odion Ighalo

It was a bitter sweet experience for Nigeria striker, Odion Ighalo, who scored his 14th goal of the season as Tottenham Hotspur ended Watford’s five-game unbeaten streak with a 2-1 victory on Monday at Vicarage Road.

The 26-year-old scored in his sixth successive Barclays Premier League game to bring the Hornets back on level terms.

Ighalo showed great strength to out-muscle Eric Dier before poking the ball pass Hugo Lloris for his 30th goal in 2015 five minutes before break.

This is the first time Watford has lost this season with Ighalo on the score sheet.

And the Nigerian, a target for Roma,  now has his sights on equalling the  record goals scored by his countryman in the BPL.

Former international, Yakubu Ayegbeni, holds the record in the 2003/04 season, where he scored 16 goals for Portsmouth.

Spurs got their goals through Eric Lamela in the 15th minute and Son Heung-min two minutes before full-time.

The result takes Mauricio Pochettino’s side to 35 points while Watford remains on 29.
