Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has formally informed President Bola Tinubu of her intention to contest the governorship of Ogun State under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Obasanjo disclosed details of the meeting in a statement on Tuesday. She said the discussion focused on leadership, governance and development in the country and Ogun State.
The former commissioner for health and senator who represented Ogun Central from 2007 to 2011 said she appreciated the president’s role in governance and his support for political participation.
She said, “Yesterday in Lagos, I had the privilege of meeting His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Our conversation focused on leadership, governance and the development of our nation and Ogun State.
“I thank the President for his time and his commitment to democracy and support for leaders.
“As we continue consultations ahead of 2027, I remain committed to serving with experience and a people-focused approach.”
Speaking on her governorship ambition, Obasanjo said she has been involved in politics in the state for years and understands the needs of the people.
She said experience is important in governance and service delivery.
Iyabo Obasanjo said her focus would be on education, healthcare and employment if elected.
She said there is a need to create jobs, improve schools and strengthen health institutions across the state.
She added that her goal is to ensure development across all parts of Ogun State.
