Ireti Doyle marks 30 years in Nollywood

Actress Ireti Doyle has celebrated 30 years in the movie industry with a personal tribute on Wednesday.

In an Instagram post, she shared a picture of herself with the write-up, “30+ TRUTHS From 30 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE.”

In a second slide, she added, “EVERY SCRIPT IS AN INVITATION TO UNDERSTAND, FEEL AND BECOME… LINES ARE NOT TO BE MEMORISED, THEY ARE TO BE LIVED!”

In the caption, she noted that her first paid acting role was in 1995 as Shade in the soap opera Riddles & Hopes, produced in Jos by the late Matt Dadzie.

“30 years of making magic and creating memorable characters and moments. 3 solid decades… What a ride!!” she concluded.

The 58-year-old launched her acting career on television before becoming a fixture on stage and screen.

She earned her degree in theatre arts and mass communications at the University of Jos.

She performed in Nigeria’s long-running soap Tinsel as Sheila Ade‑Williams.

Early on, she starred in the sitcom Fuji House of Commotion as Caro, the fourth wife in chief Taju’s household.

Her breakthrough on film came with roles in All About Ere (1998), followed by Sitanda (2006), Across the Niger (2009) and Torn (2013).

She appeared in major Nollywood hits including The Wedding Party and The Arbitration (both in 2016), Merry Men (2018), Kasanova and Zena (2019) and Something Wicked (2017).

She also featured in the crime thriller The Black Book (2023) and played Inspector Babalola in the Netflix crime series To Kill a Monkey (2025).

Doyle has earned multiple awards, including Best Supporting Actress at the African Magic Viewers Choice Awards in 2015 for Torn and two Best Supporting Actress awards at the Africa Movie Academy Awards for Sitanda (2007) and Across the Niger (2009).

In addition to acting, she developed and presented the lifestyle show Oge With Iretiola, which began in 2000 and was relaunched in 2019, anchored shows like Morning Ride, Today on STV and Nimasa This Week and wrote screenplays including the first season of Amaka Igwe’s Tempest and contributed columns to This Day, City People and Vanguard.

She founded Sisi Ologe Entertainment, a media consulting and production company and owns Ologe Farms, an organic snail farm launched in 2017 Buzz.

Ireti Doyle was married to fellow actor Patrick Doyle with whom she shares six children and in January 2023, she confirmed in an interview that they had divorced, ending years of speculation about their marriage.

She is a grandmother and a mentor to younger talents in Nollywood.
