Actor Pete Edochie has expressed shock over the spate of divorce in the movie industry.

In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo published on Friday on Instagram, the 76-year-old mentioned the likes of Chioma Akpotha, Ireti Doyle and Tonto Dikeh as some actresses who have left their marriages.

He said, “If you come to our industry today, most of our girls who got married some two, three years ago have all left their husbands. I’m even shocked that Chioma Chukwuka, Ireti Doyle, Tonto have all left their marriages.”

Okonkwo, as he is fondly called, said he believes that many of them left because they think it is greener on the other side.

Pete advised women and men to stay put in their marriages and stop moving from one place to another, stressing the sanctity of marriage.

He pointed out that the marriage vow states, “for better for worse, not for better for us.”

“You’ll always think it’s greener on the other side. That’s the mistake a lot of us make,” he said.

Pete revealed he loves actress Genevieve Nnaji like a daughter.

“Of all the girls who have played my daughters in films, somehow it’s Genevieve that I think I love most. I came to see her as a daughter and she looks at me as a father. She is really a smart woman, an exceptionally brilliant woman. Although I haven’t heard from her lately I hope one day she calls me,” he said.

The experienced movie star said he heard Genevieve reportedly had mental breakdown, adding that he tried to reach her but couldn’t.
