India returnee dies of coronavirus in Lagos

A Nigerian who recently returned from India has died of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Lagos.

Commissioner for Health in Lagos, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said on Tuesday on Twitter that the 45-year-old man returned from India in January.

“No new case of #COVID19 was confirmed in Lagos on 20th April, 2020,” Abayomi wrote.

 “However, #COVID19 related deaths were recorded in Lagos. One of the deceased was a 45-year-old Nigerian; male who returned from India in January 2020.”

The commissioner said the second death involved a 36-year-old Nigerian female with severe underlying health condition.

“She had no history of travel or contact with any #COVID19 confirmed case,” he wrote.

Of the 38 new coronavirus cases announced on Monday night by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Lagos recorded none while Kano recorded the highest with 23.

There are now 665 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria, 188 discharged and 22 deaths.
