Former military governor of Ondo State and recipient of Independent’s Life Achievement Award 2023 Navy Bode George has described the award by Independent newspapers as a unifying factor for Nigeria’s unity.

Acknowledging the credibility of the award, the former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) noted that in his view, the award has gained its credibility based on its strategic selection of awardees which cuts across all walks of Nigerian life.

He continued that the award is significant in its objective to unite Nigerians across board irrespective of political learnings or partisanship.

George applauded the media organisation for its service to the nation by bringing Nigerians devoid of politics together at a time when everyone was grappling to belong where it is not even necessary.

Similarly, Dr Nwadiuto Iheakanwa, group managing director, Champion Newspaper who represented Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, noted that the Independent award has brought about a new spirit for national unity beyond partisan.

She thanked the organisers of the event for spreading its net of unity across Nigeria.
