The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the removal of Edgal Imohimi as Lagos State commissioner of police.

His removal was announced in a statement on Wednesday following the appointment and deployment of 37 command commissioners of police in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.

Mu’azu Zubairu has been appointed as Imohimi’s replacement.

The appointment by the PSC came following recommendation by the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu to the Commission.

“With the approval, Lagos, Kwara, Kogi and other states now have new Commissioners of Police while the Commissioners of Police in charge of FCT, Borno and few other states’ appointment were revalidated,” the statement reads.

Imohimi was listed for redeployment in January by immediate past IGP Ibrahim Idris but the move was halted by Adamu upon resumption of office.

Kayode Egbetokun, who was announced as Imohimi’s replacement in January has now been redeployed to Kwara State.

Mr Egbetokun and the other new commissioners of police are expected to proceed immediately to their new commands ahead of the 2019 general elections.

PSC chairman, Musiliu Smith, has charged them to quickly settle at their new posts and ensure that the elections in their various commands are peaceful, free, fair and transparent.

He added that the nation cannot afford any disruption of elections anywhere especially as the world looks up to Nigeria for a proof that its democracy has continued to mature.
