IFC rejects Elisha Abbo as AGN patron

The Ibadan Film Circle (IFC) has rejected the appointment of Elisha Abbo as patron of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

This was contained in a statement signed by the administrator of the circle, Ropo Ewenla, which was released on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the organisation is against the appointment of Abbo who is “a proven perpetrator of gender-based violence.”

The statement also described the efforts by the chairman of the Adamawa State chapter of the AGN, Jimi Lot, to justify the appointment of Abbo as disappointing.

Finally, the organisation called on all stake holders in the Nigerian film, theatre and media industries to collectively condemn Abbo’s appointment.

Nollywood actresses, Hilda Dokubo and Kate Henshaw, had on March 17, expressed their disproval over the appointment of Abbo as AGN patron.

The actresses argued that the senator’s assault of a woman in an adult toy shop in July 2019 in Abuja, made him unfit to occupy the position.

In an interview with Pulse TV published on Tuesday, Emeka Rollas justified the appointment of Abbo as patron, saying he has not been convicted of any crime.

The guild then announced on Thursday that it would be holding general meeting on March 23 to address the matter.
