52-year-old identical twin brothers commit suicide

Identical twin brothers who were said to have done everything together took their own lives by hanging themselves, investigation has revealed.

Neil and Paul Micklewright, both 52, were described as inseparable after they were found in a park in Trafford, Greater Manchester, England.

Their bodies were discovered by a dog walker in Davyhulme Park – just yards from their family home they grew up in – on July 31.

Emergency services rushed to the men at 8.40am but they were declared dead at the scene. No suspicious circumstances have been cited for their death.

An inquest at Stockport Coroner’s Court was opened on Friday, which showed that both men died from hanging.

South Manchester coroner Mr Chris Morris said: “I’m satisfied that the tragic deaths of Mr Neil Micklewright and Mr Paul Micklewright require an investigation into the circumstances.

“In terms of an initial investigation I’m going to ask their GP if they are known to them, and to mental health services.”

The inquest was adjourned pending a full hearing on February next year.

The brothers, who were both single and never married, moved out of their childhood home to a nearby flat when their mother Joan died around 2015. Their father is thought to have died a decade earlier.

Next-door-neighbour Lilian Burgess, 84, knew the Micklewright brothers from when they were children and has been left distraught by their deaths.

“They were so quiet. They were introverted and would hardly ever speak,” she said.

“But they wouldn’t hurt anyone – the pair of them were gentle.

“They were inseparable – you would never see them apart. They did everything together.

“They sometimes wore matching outfits like twins do. Their mum Joan was very protective of them.

“You never know what’s going on in somebody’s head, do you? What a waste.”
