Sophia Momodu, the mother of Davido’s first daughter, Imade, has alleged that she has not received any form of child support from the singer, insisting she has single-handedly taken care of their child for years.
The 38-year-old made the claim in a lengthy social media post while reacting to what she described as targeted misinformation about her daughter’s well-being.
According to her, she woke up to “numerous posts … intentionally targeted at my lovely daughter and trying to portray a false image of her well-being.”
“As a fiercely protective mother, I knew that I had to stand up for my child,” she wrote.
“It’s essential to note that my daughter is a happy, healthy, and well-rounded child. Anyone who has met her in person can attest to this.”
Sophia said she has been Imade’s sole caregiver for the past five years, covering every expense except school fees, which she said were settled by Imade’s grandparents over the last three years.
“I have not received child support from her father,” she said. “But our child knows no lack. She is growing in a healthy environment and is very happy.”
She added that she has waived all past child-support claims and relinquished any future requests, taking on full financial responsibility for Imade.
Her comments come amid a long-running custody dispute. In 2024, Davido filed a suit seeking joint custody and unrestricted access to the child. Sophia, in her own filings, insisted that Davido has not seen Imade since July 2022 “by his own choice.”
She maintained that she never denied him access to their daughter. According to her, she only denied him “access to my body,” not to the child.
Sophia also accused the singer of neglecting key responsibilities, saying she covered school-related and welfare expenses after he allegedly stopped paying. She said the emotional pressure of sporadic involvement was unhealthy for the child.
