I had thyroid issues while shooting RHOLagos — Mariam Timmer

Mariam Timmer, star of The Real Housewives of Lagos, has opened up about the personal battles she faced behind the cameras, including IVF struggles and a thyroid disorder.

In an interview with TheCable, Mariam admitted that her health issues made filming emotionally challenging.

“With everything, dealing with my IVF, I found out during that process that I had thyroid issues. I was just angry at everything,” she said.

She explained that viewers sometimes misinterpreted her reactions, which were influenced by the stress of fertility treatments and medical challenges.

“I had thyroid issues while I was shooting Real Housewives. It is not like I do not eat healthy, I do not do stupid s**t, so why am I getting all this? Is it not enough that I have fibroids? Now it is thyroid,” Mariam added.

Mariam’s journey to reality TV was unexpected. A political science graduate, she began her career in PR and later became a mother before joining RHOLagos Season 1 episode four. . On the show, she said she simply tried to be herself.

“I was just myself; I was not trying to change who I am,” she revealed.

In a separate interview with This Day, Mariam reflected on societal pressures and motherhood, sharing the she went public with her struggles to raise awareness and break the silence many women endure in similar situations.

“Because a lot of people are going through this, but our culture does not allow them to speak up,” Mariam said.

While she still hopes for another child, she is prioritising her mental and emotional well-being.

“Am I still gonna try? Yes. Is it top of my priority? No. If God wants to give me only one child, it’s fine. He should give me money, peace of mind and the help to train this child,” she concluded.
