Gospel singer Chidinma Ekile has recounted how the devil attempted to take her life during a recent 40-day prayer and fasting retreat.
The 34-year-old revealed this during a testimony service where she said God instructed her to go on the retreat shortly after returning from the United States.
“I went to the mountain. I’m not Jesus, but I fasted and prayed for over forty days. I lost weight. The experience was something I never imagined… I never knew He loved me this much,” she said.
Chidinma added that she spent several nights praying, crying and worshipping God in the bush.
She, however, revealed that she almost gave in to a dark force during the retreat.
“While I was on the mountain, the enemy… took me to the top of the mountain, to the cliff at night, where everything was dark. And right there at the cliff, the devil asked me to jump. The voice was so strong… I was about to take the jump, and I noticed I was being barricaded… Something was just there, and I was crying… God had mercy,” she narrated.
The former Project Fame winner described the experience as a spiritual surgery where God stripped her of old baggage and poured in new grace.
“It was more like I was in a theatre. God performed surgery on me, took some things and put in some. He broke me into shreds… I’ve seen it all, and material things don’t move me anymore. God is looking for those who are not perfect or strong people.”
Chidinma said she eventually found fulfilment during the retreat, admitting that prior to the experience, she was doing what she thought was right but still felt empty.
“He showered me with so much love… peace inside of me… cannot buy with money. I was doing all I had to do, but I wasn’t fulfilled. I needed to move, but I didn’t know how. But Jesus is King.”
Chidinma, who shot to fame after winning Project Fame West Africa in 2010, transitioned fully into gospel music in 2021.
Since then, she has released several gospel singles and albums under EeZee Global Ministry, including New Season and her recent 2025 album The Road Best Travelled.
