How lawyer died chasing husband of over 10 years, ‘side chick’

Claret Bassey who died chasing husband, side chick

A lawyer Claret Bassey died on Sunday, September 18 in Calabar in a lone car accident while chasing her husband and his alleged lover locally known as side chick.

The deceased was married to Sunday Bassey for over 10 years. They began dating in their days at a university, reports The Nation.

Mrs Bassey reportedly got a call from a friend that fateful day. She was told her husband was at a mall with the alleged side chick.

The mother of three immediately took her car and headed for the mall.

The newspaper reported that when she got there her husband was in his car with his alleged side chick identified as Laticia.

Mr Bassey immediately started his car when he saw his wife. She however gave him a hot chase until they got to the highway.

Suddenly, Bassey veered off the highway to adjoining streets of the state housing estate. But his wife could not do same on high speed.

The woman lost control of the car and rammed into a tree, leaving her seriously injured and the car badly damaged.

The newspaper reported that eyewitnesses said Bassey stopped when he realised his wife had had an accident.

The alleged side chick, who was already panicking, alighted from the vehicle and fled the scene.

An eyewitness told the newspaper that Bassey “was apologetic before the dying wife and pleaded that she should not die.”

The lawyer was however confirmed dead at a naval hospital.
