How ‘juju man’ tried to cast spell on me – Nathaniel Bassey

Nathaniel Bassey

Gospel singer and pastor Nathaniel Bassey has recounted an encounter with an alleged traditional spiritualist whom he said attempted to cast a spell on him.

Nathaniel shared the experience during a worship session circulated online, saying the man approached him while he was in his car along an express road and began what he described as an attempt to influence him spiritually.

“I don’t know how we knew, but this was the second time that this same guy, the ‘juju man,’ was coming. One time on the express road, he came and knocked. He was casting an enchantment, hoping that it would influence me. He was commanding me to do something, but I just stood there and laughed.”

He said he responded by declaring Bible verses, which he described as affirmations of protection.

“I said, didn’t they tell you that as they went from one kingdom to another, He suffered no man to do them wrong; He rebuked kings for their sake, saying, ‘Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm’?”

Nathaniel added that the man remained at the scene expecting the alleged spell to take effect, but nothing happened. He cited another scripture during the encounter.

“Numbers 23:23 says there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel.”

According to him, he later stepped out of his car and ordered the man to leave the area. Reflecting on the incident, he said his intention in sharing the story was not to glorify evil but to stress the reality of spiritual challenges.

“I came out of my car and ordered him to get out of here, you dirty devil, quick. I’m not saying this to boast, but while we do not glorify the devil, there is wickedness in the world.”

Nathaniel is known for his worship ministry and for convening the Hallelujah Challenge, an online prayer and praise programme that attracts participants from Nigeria and other countries. His teachings and music often focus on prayer, worship and faith, themes he said informed his response during the encounter.
