Content creator and social media influencer Amarachi Amusi, known as Ashmusy, has said that failed relationships pushed her to freeze her eggs in order to protect her chances of becoming a mother in future.
She said motherhood is very important to her, adding that she made the decision after experiencing serious relationships she believed would lead to marriage, which later ended.
“I really wanted to secure my future as a mother. Motherhood is very important to me, and I want to be sure that I will become a mum in the future, no matter what happens,” she said.
Ashmusy said the disappointments made her realise that finding the right partner might take longer than she expected.
“That made me understand that finding the right partner might take longer than I expected. Because of that, I decided to secure my future and play safe,” she said.
She explained that she first learned about egg freezing after former Big Brother Naija housemate Uriel Oputa shared her own experience with the procedure.
According to her, Uriel’s decision stayed with her because it showed a possible option for women who want to preserve their chances of becoming mothers later in life.
Ashmusy said she later carried out detailed research, spoke with doctors, searched online and studied how the process works before going ahead with it.
She described egg freezing as a medical process where a woman’s eggs are collected from the ovaries and stored at very low temperatures for future use through assisted reproduction.
Speaking on her emotions before the decision, she said she initially felt panic and pressure because she had always expected to be married before turning 30.
“At first, there was panic, pressure and fear, but eventually I reached a point of acceptance. Once I accepted where I was in life, I found clarity and began to heal,” she said.
Ashmusy added that turning 30 without marriage helped her accept her situation and make clearer decisions about her future.
She said the procedure has now given her peace of mind and reduced pressure about age and relationships.
“It has given me peace of mind. I feel safe, secure and relaxed now. I can calmly take my time to find the right partner without feeling pressured by age or my biological clock,” she said.
She also said the decision has not changed her view of womanhood, stressing that being a woman is not defined by motherhood.
Medical experts note that egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, is increasingly used by women who want to delay childbirth for personal, medical or career reasons, and involves retrieving eggs, freezing them, and storing them for possible future fertilisation.
