How domestic violence inspired my podcast – Ayo Adesanya

Ayo Adesanya

Actress Ayo Adesanya has revealed that her personal experiences, including surviving domestic violence, inspired her to start her podcast, Real Life With Aunty Ayo.

Ayo disclosed this in an interview with Saturday Beats, noting that her motivation is rooted in a desire to create a safe space for shared learning and healing.

“I have been through domestic violence, and I like to talk about other people’s stories. I want us to learn together and heal together, if possible. I like hearing about people’s challenges—what they are facing in life and how we can overcome them,” she said.

Speaking further, the actress described the opportunity to have people open up to her as deeply meaningful.

“It’s a new field for me, but I studied Communication and Language Arts at the University of Ibadan, so I already have the background. The fact that people are able to open up to me is a privilege. Being able to bring people on the show to talk about these issues means a lot. Years ago, we couldn’t discuss some of these things openly. It shows we have come a long way,” she added.

Ayo is well known in the Yoruba film industry and has featured in several productions over the years, including Sango Ota, Owo Blow, Ogun Mola and Idamu Akoto. She gained prominence in the 1990s and remains active in Nollywood.

Her podcast, Real Life With Aunty Ayo, focuses on personal experiences, relationships and social issues, with guests sharing their stories to encourage open conversations and learning. The show reflects her move into digital media as she engages audiences beyond film.
