Police in Lagos have arrested a 22-year-old housemaid, Joseph Ogbu, for allegedly killing his employer and the 89-year-old mother, two days after being employed at Surulere area of the state.

Lagos police spokesperson, Bala Elkana, in a statement said the incident occurred around 3 am on Thursday.

Mr Ogbu was said to have murdered his employer, Oreoluwa John, 38; and the mother, Adejoke John.

Mr Elkana said in the statement that the suspect admitted that “his employer asked him to clean the house at about 9pm of June 19 but an argument ensued between them, which prompted him to stab her with a knife.”

The spokesman said “the shock of her death made her aged mother to slump and died.”

Ogbu was alleged to have attempted to flee with “some valuable properties such as electronics, handsets and household items” in his employer’s Toyota Camry Salon Car” before he was arrested by policemen on patrol at Ogunlana point.

The corpses of the two victims have been taken to Mainland Hospital Yaba for autopsy, Elkana said.

Lagos police commissioner, Zubairu Muazu, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba to take over the investigation and charge the suspect to court.
