Police station set on fire in Anambra

Suspected hoodlums have set a police station in Ajali Orumba North local government area of Anambra State on fire.

A police source said the hoodlums were suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The source added that the hoodlums set some detainees free and beat up several policemen.

Anambra police spokesman, Haruna Mohammed, said about the incident: “It’s a case of fire incident for now until the contrary is proved through discreet investigation. The Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Dandaura, is presently at the scene for on-the-spot assessment.

“He (CP) ordered the DC Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to conduct a thorough investigation in order to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.”

Election materials, including PVCs, were recently set on fire at the Anambra office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
