High expectations as Fred Amata is appointed director of Abuja International Film Festival

The Board and Management of the 11th Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF) have announced the appointment of popular Nigerian actor and director, Fred Amata, as acting festival director.

Fred AmataHe is taking the baton of leadership from founder of the festival, Fidelis Duker, whose role will operate in advisory capacity.

Duker has over the last 11 years taken AIFF to an enviable height globally as the longest running independent film festival in West Africa.

The 11th edition of the film festival is billed for the 23rd to 26th of September, 2014.

Amata is a 1986 graduate of theatre arts from the University of Jos. He was the second director of the longest running TV soap of the eighties Ripples.

An award-winning actor, the 51-year-old has worked with several TV stations in Nigeria and directed notable Nollywood movies.

In a career spanning almost three decades, Amata has earned directorial, acting and performance credits in over 150 productions spanning almost the entire genre of film, theatre, and cinema.

Reacting to the choice of Amata, veteran actor, Bimbo Manuel, said in a message posted on Facebook “Brilliant. Well done Fidel (Duker). I look forward as usual to the intellectual content of the festival.”
