Organisers of urbane music and hip culture awards, The Headies, have announced a new date for this year’s edition.

Originally scheduled to hold on October 25, it will now hold on December 14, according to an update provided on Monday.

Executive Producer, Ayo Animashaun, revealed that the event is returning to the Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos this year by popular demand.

No reason was given for moving it from Landmark Event Centre, Oniru, also in Lagos were it was originally planned to hold.

“It’s another opportunity to give Nigerians a spectacular show, and we are working round the clock to do what we are best known for,” Animashaun said.

There are 21 categories this year, with Phyno and KCEE leading the nominees’ list with five nominations each.

Vying for the highly coveted Next Rated prize are Patoranking, Runtown, Orezi, Skales and Yemi Alade.

“This is undoubtedly the toughest awards yet,” organisers said.

“It promises to be the best pre-Christmas gift yet,” Animashaun promises, adding, “the artistes can’t wait, our nominees are excited; the entire industry is agog and we’re beyond excited.”
