Publisher of Hallmark Newspaper Emeka Obasi has passed on at the age of 58.

The veteran journalist died on Wednesday after a protracted illness.

Obasi, a former commissioner for information in Abia State, had been battling an undisclosed health challenge for the past eight years.

In 2019, he revealed his ordeal with the illness during the launch of his book Saved for His Praise in Lagos.

The public relations expert had in the 372-page book chronicled his battle with the ailment which, according to him, defied medical treatment and saw preachers intercede by prayers.

The book launch attracted the likes of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi; former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko; former managing director of Diamond Bank, Emeka Onwuka; and Prof. Anya Anya.

The Abia State native is the founder and executive secretary of Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre (PPRAC), organisers of the Zik Prize in Leadership Award.

Obasi also founded National Mirror which he eventually sold to businessman Jimoh Ibrahim.
