Unknown gunmen on Saturday kidnapped a traditional ruler, Enogie of Ukhiri, in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo State, Godwin Aigbe.

Reports say that the monarch, who was a retired chief superintendent of police, was whisked away to an unknown destination when armed men, about five of them, invaded his palace.

Sources in the community said the hoodlums set their unregistered car on fire before forcing the traditional ruler into his own Nissan Sunny car which they drove off.

The hoodlums were also said to have shot in the air severally.

Witnesses say the abductors drove to Delta State through Abraka road.

The monarch took over the throne from his father a few years ago.

Edo police spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident, and assured that the traditional ruler would be rescued.

“Yes, it is true. The police are on top of the situation to ensure that the traditional ruler is rescued unhurt,” he said.
