Gunmen have reportedly attacked a brother of Senator Dino Melaye, shooting at him at his residence in Aiyetoro Gbede, Kogi State.
The lawmaker raised alarm over the alleged attack via a tweet on Friday morning.
“Gunmen fired sporadically @ my brother in his house @ Aiyetoro Gbede around 4:30 am this morning. I thank God they failed. We shall surely overcome,” he wrote.
He also shared pictures of the apartment hit by bullets from gunmen allegedly loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Melaye will on Saturday contest Kogi West senatorial seat with the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Smart Adeyemi, as his major contender.
He had on Tuesday accused the police of heading to his house in Aiyetoro to plant arms.
Tensions have been high in Kogi ahead of the governorship polls also scheduled for November 16 as both camps of the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have accused each other of brewing trouble.
Governor Yahaya Bello is seeking a second term in office on the APC platform.
