Gunmen ‘attack’ Labour Party Osun gov candidate Lasun Yussuff hours after debate

Lasun Yussuff

Governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Osun State Lasun Yussuff has alleged that gunmen invaded his residence in Osun on Monday.

The former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives said in a tweet that the gunmen shot randomly.

“Just in: gun men in uniforms are presently in my residence shooting sporadically,” he wrote.

The alleged incident occurred hours after Yussuff participated in the governorship debate organised by Channels TV.

It was not immediately clear if there were any casualties in the shooting.

Yussuff tweeted about five hours later, saying “And (remember) when the disbelievers plotted against you to imprison you, or to kill you, or to expel you (from your home, Makkah); they were plotting and Allah too was plotting, and Allah is the best of plotters. Quran 8 verse 30.”

Osun police spokesperson Opalola Yemisi told TheCable that the alleged incident is being investigated.

At the debate, Yussuff said he would push for the amendment of the constitution to enable state policing which, according to him, would greatly address insecurity in the country.

“There is little any state government can do. Amotekun cannot arrest. In the long run, we have to amend the constitution for state police,” he said.
