Grammy: Angelique Kidjo thanks Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Mr Eazi, others

Beninese-American music icon Angelique Kidjo gave a shout-out to singers Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Mr Eazi and others during her acceptance speech at the 2022 Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles, US on Sunday.

Kidjo bagged the award for Best Global Music for Mother Nature album which features collaborations with Burna Boy, Yemi and Eazi.

While receiving the award, she thanked the music stars for their contributions to the African music industry.

“Young musicians from Africa are gonna take the world by storm and I’m gonna take my time to thank them Yemi Alade, Burna Boy, Sting, Mr Eazi, Zimnabi, all the producers my manager my band and all of you fans out there that are music lovers that are always there when we need you, you listen we are all Africans thank you so much,” she said in parts.

In 2020, the 60-year-old was announced the winner of the Best World Music Album category for her Celia at the 62nd Grammy Awards.

During her acceptance speech, Kidjo dedicated the award to Burna Boy and celebrated a new generation of African artistes coming up to represent the continent.
