Grammy 2023: Burna Boy battles Angelique Kidjo again, others for best album

Nigerian singer Burna Boy has been nominated alongside Beninese-American music icon Angelique Kidjo for ‘Best Global Music Album’ at the 2023 Grammy Awards.

The nominations were announced on social media on Tuesday.

Burna Boy will be battling Kidjo again, alongside Ibrahim Maalouf, Berklee Indian Ensemble, and Anoushka Shankar, Metropole Orkest and Jules Buckley featuring Manu Delago and Masa Takumi.

The 31-year-old was nominated for his album Love, Damini while Kidjo was nominated for Queen Sheba, a collaboration with Maalouf.

Burna Boy was nominated in the Best Global Music Performance category for his ‘Last Last’ single alongside; Arooj Aftab and Anoushka, Matt B and Eddy Kenzo, Rocky Dawuni featuring Blvk H3ro, Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode.

Kidjo was nominated alongside Burna Boy at the 2020 Grammy Awards for Best Global Music Album which he lost to the former.

However, Kidjo dedicated her win to him, saying: “Burna Boy is among those young artistes that come from Africa that is changing the way our continent is perceived and the way that African music is the bedrock of all music.”

Burna Boy won in the same category the following year.
