GOtv Boxing Night: Skoro vows to win African title

West African Boxing Union Featherweight champion, Waidi “Skoro” Usman, has vowed to add the African Boxing Union title to his list of honours when he takes on Kenya’s Michael Nyawade in their continental title fight the GOtv Boxing Night on 26 December.

Speaking in Lagos on Wednesday, Skoro, who also holds the national title, said Nyawade’s impressive record of 12 wins (nine KOs), three losses and two draws in 14 fights will count for nothing when they clash.

“They call him a knockout king. Fine. He is coming to meet the knockout emperor. Nobody, including Nyawade, can stop me from winning the title. My target is the world title. The African title is just a stepping stone,” he boasted.

The Skoro/Nyawade clash is the biggest of the four fights at the GOtv Boxing Night, a professional boxing event that will hold at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Lagos on Boxing Day.

Also lined are up are two national title fights.

One is the National Light Welterweight title fight between incumbent champion Sadiq Ahmed and rising star, Olaide “Fijaborn” Fijabi.

The other is between Sunday “Capo” Olalekan and Stanley “Edo Boy” Eribo.

The fourth bout at the event is between Sunday “Golden Child” Ajuwa and Rasheed “Afonja Warrior” Abolaji, who face each other in a Super Middleweight national challenge contest.

The best boxer at the event will go home with N1.5m and the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy
