Google honours Christy Essien-Igbokwe with doodle for 58th posthumous birthday

Internet giant, Google, has honoured late Nigerian singer, Christy Essien-Igbokwe, with a doodle to celebrate her 58th posthumous birthday.

Popularly known as the Lady of Songs, Christy died in Lagos on June 30, 2011.

She was 50 at the time of her death.

Her husband, Edwin Igbokwe, said in a 2014 interview with Punch that she never expected to live beyond 50.

“She told our children that she would live for 50 years and that any single day thereafter, they should be thanking God. She died June 30, 2011 at age of 50,” Igbokwe said.

Christy was the first female national president of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (Nigeria).

She is most popular for her song, ‘Seun Rere’.

A fluent speaker of Igbo, Ibibio, Efik, Hausa, Yoruba and English, Christy also acted as Apena in the now rested popular NTA comedy series, New Masquerade.

She was a holder of the (Member of the Federal Republic MFR) national honour.

Google had on October 27 honoured Dr Stella Adadevoh, who expertise and devotion to duty, prevented the spread of the Ebola virus in Nigeria in 2014 with a doodle to celebrate her 62nd posthumous birthday.
