The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has condoled with its member, Gabriel Akinadewo, publisher of Freedom Online, on the death of his son, Oluwagbenga.
The guild conveyed its condolences in a letter signed by its president Danlami Nmodu and general secretary Sufuyan Ojeifo.
In the letter, GOCOP described the death as saddening and tragic, saying it was a great loss to the family and friends of the deceased.
It urged the Akinadewo family to take comfort in what it described as the focused and productive life their son lived.
The letter read in part, “Washington’s life, though cut short, was a testament to his potential and promise. His impending National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in January 2026, consequent upon his graduation from the University of Lagos, where he studied Information Technology, was a milestone that symbolised his dedication to scholarship and nation-building. His passing is a profound loss to your family, the online publishing community, and the nation at large.
“In this dark hour, we find solace in the memories of Washington’s life, his accomplishments, and the legacy he leaves behind. May these memories bring you comfort and strength, and may the Almighty God grant you, your wife, and loved ones the fortitude to navigate this difficult time”.
The guild also prayed for the repose of Oluwagbenga’s soul and for God’s protection over his family.
Oluwagbenga, also known as Washington, died on Sunday in Lagos at a private hospital after a brief illness.
He had recently graduated from a Lagos private university where he studied information technology and was preparing to begin the National Youth Service Corps programme in January 2026.
He has since been buried.
