For the second successive week, the Glo-sponsored CNN International’s magazine programme, African Voices, will feature a renowned medical doctor as celebrity guest on the show.

This weekend’s edition will have Ghanaian Orthopaedic surgeon, Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, as guest. Last week, it was Nigerian doctor and founder/ publisher of Health Care, Bola Olaosebikan, who was featured on the programme.

African Voices will run  on CNN International at 4.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. on Saturday and at 12.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. on Sunday. Viewers can also watch the show during the repeat broadcasts on Monday at 11:30 a.m. and on Tuesday at 5.30 a.m.

Boachie-Adjei  developed interest in medicine early in life when a doctor saved him from a life-threatening illness when he was a child. Since then, he has spent decades striving to save the lives of others. His passion for medicine has made the Ghanaian one of the leading experts in the field of spinal surgery worldwide.

He is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College, and Chief Emeritus of the Scoliosis Service at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). He is an Associate Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at both HSS and New York-Presbyterian Hospital. He has a special expertise in the treatment of scoliosis, kyphosis and spine reconstruction in both adult and paediatric patients.

Dr. Boachie-Adjei, was born in Kumasi, Ghana, on December 16, 1950. He migrated to the United States in 1972 and completed his undergraduate studies at Brooklyn College, where he received a Bachelor of Science (summa cum laude) in 1976. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1980.

He was Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota (1987-1990); Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Southern California (1990-1994) and Assistant Clinical Professor, University of California College of Medicine, Irvine (1993-1994). His clinical appointments included the position of Associate Medical Director at the Southern California Complex Spine and Scoliosis Center in Whittier (1990-1994).

Dr. Boachie-Adjei has published and lectured extensively on Spine Surgery, with special emphasis on surgery to correct spine deformity. He is an inventor who holds several patents for devices used in spine surgery.

As the founder and president of F.O.C.O.S. (Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine), he has helped provide orthopaedic medical care to underserved populations in West Africa and other third world nations. In 2004, Dr. Boachie-Adjei received the Humanitarian Award from AAOS.  He was also elected President of the Scoliosis Research Society for the 2008-2009 year and was featured in the Discovery channel documentary entitled, “Surgery Saved My Life.”
