Gerrard snubs Kanu, Okocha for Premier League best African

Nwankwo Kanu scored over 60 Premier League for Arsenal, West Brom and Portsmouth.

He won the heart of millions across the globe with his superb skills, exquisite moves and beautiful finishes.

Jay-Jay Okocha, meanwhile, dazzled in the middle of the park for Bolton Wanderers, climbing up to skipper the Reebok side.

Yet ex-Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, opines that none is the finest African to have graced the English game.

Instead, the former England international believes Egypt forward, Mohamed Salah, is the best.

Salah has scored 32 goals in 39 games during a hugely impressive debut season at Liverpool

Not even Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure were deemed better than the ex-Roma winger.

As reported by talkSPORT, Gerrard, when asked whether Salah is the greatest African player in the history of the Premier League, told BT Sport: “It’s a tough one. Yes, probably.

“I think you have to wait to see how he finishes the season, but if he continues to get goals and set a record, then you have to say yes.”

Salah has certainly proved to be an inspired purchase by the Reds but it is questionable whether he can be seen as the greatest African player to grace the Premier League.

The Egyptian, who was named the Premier League player of the month for February, will hope to impress when Liverpool face rivals Manchester United away on Saturday.
