Gas plant attendants allegedly kill cashier in Imo

Slain gas plant manager Joy Nwachukwu

Some gas plant attendants in Imo have allegedly killed the facility’s accounting officer Joy Nwachukwu in an attempt to steal funds.

The incident, which took place on October 24, was uncovered after the victim’s family raised the alarm concerning Nwachukwu’s whereabouts.

Nwachukwu’s corpse was buried in a shallow grave within the premises of the gas plant, located at Toronto/Road Safety Road, MCC Owerri, Imo State capital, the police said.

The family members led by one Pastor Precious Abara reported the case to the state’s Police Command and officers were detailed to commence an investigation.

“The suspects killed her because they wanted to collect all the money made from sales in the company since last week. We understand she normally makes deposits into the company’s bank account every Tuesday, being the accountant of the company,” a family source quoted by The Guardian said.

Two suspects, including the plant’s manager, have been arrested.
