Ganduje bans opposite genders from boarding same tricycle

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has banned persons of opposite genders from boarding same commercial tricycles across the state from January 2020.

The governor represented by Commander General of Hisbah Board, Harun Ibn-Sina, announced this on Wednesday at the closing ceremony of 77th annual Islamic Vacation Course (IVC) organised by Zone A of Muslim Society of Nigeria (MSSN) held at Bayero University, Kano.

Former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau introduced commercial tricycles known as ‘A daidaita sahu’ in Kano during his administration as means of transportation for women only.

Shekarau also banned commercial motorcyclists from conveying women.

However, since Shekarau’s departure, commercial tricyclists began conveying people of both genders.

At the event, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar lll, faulted the reaction of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to the United States’ classification of Nigeria as one of the nations where religious freedom is not guaranteed.

Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi ll, cautioned Muslims against “growing their needs beyond their resources.”

According to Emir Sanusi, children are increasingly getting out of school in the Muslim North due to “uncontrolled polygamy and high rate of divorce.”
