The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has cleared a final-year student Oladokun Ayomide of any wrongdoing.

Ayomide was arrested on the allegation of poisoning his girlfriend Ugbokwe Mmasichukwu and another woman Odumosu Semilore.

The police in Ogun earlier said they arrested Ayomide for the alleged crime, claiming that he administered a poison believed to be an admixture of brownie cakes, alcohol, and an unknown harmful substance after inviting them to his residence in the Surulere community last Friday.

The police said the female students, who lost consciousness after eating the cake, were rushed to the hospital where they were said to be responding to treatment.

However, a statement issued by a FUNAAB spokesman Olasunkanmi Olajide on Thursday said the cakes purchased by Ayomide “contained a high level of alcohol. This led to the unintentional intoxication of the consumers.”

“It is crucial to emphasise that all charges against Ayomide, brought forth by the parents and the school of the affected ladies, have been dropped due to the lack of malicious intent,” the school stated.

Spokesperson of Ogun State Police Command Omolola Odutola confirmed that the student had been released on bail following a settlement by the parents of the two students.
