FRSC, security agencies on alert as HID Awolowo is buried today

Corps Marshal & Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi, has approved the massive deployment of operatives for the burial Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu (HID) Awolowo taking place in Ikenne, Ogun State on Wednesday.

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo are expected to attend the burial.

HID, the wife of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, died on September 19, 2015 at the age of 99.

The vice president on Tuesday Ikenne, while the President is expected to do so today.

Osinbajo, apart from being a native of Ogun State, is married to a granddaughter of the deceased.

Zonal Commanding Officer, FRSC Zone 2 Command, Lagos, Assistant Corps Marshal Nseobong Akpabio, disclosed the agency’s agency’s while briefing the Heads of Special Task Force specifically designed to handle traffic management during the burial.

He said the arrangement became necessary in view of the number of dignitaries expected from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory as well as members of the diplomatic corps.

Akpabio, while assessing the preparedness of his men, commended FRSC operatives drawn from Ogun, Oyo and Lagos commands for the professionalism in carrying out assigned duties in the various locations and routes covered so far in the past two weeks of the activities leading to the burial proper.

He advised them to sustain the synergy between the corps and other law enforcement agencies for smooth and successful operation as part of their contribution the burial ceremony.

Zonal Head of Operations, Corps Commander Victor Ngueku, will head the special operations and will assisted by Sector Commander Ogun State, Corps Commander Adejoke Olatunji, to ensure effective supervision of the final phase of the special operations of traffic management from Ibadan to Sagamu, Abeokuta-Sagamu, Lagos-Sagamu, Sagamu-Ikenne, Benin-Ijebu Ode to Ikenne and all the routes within the Ikenne town during the interment and reception considering the volume of human and vehicular traffic in and out of Ikenne before, during and after the entire programme

All FRSC formations from Abeokuta, Sagamu, Ijebu Ode, Ogere, Ogunmakin, Mowe and special intervention teams on Ibadan -Lagos corridor and Lagos Special Intervention Squads on Lagos-Ibadan expressway are to be involved in the operations to ensure a hitch-free burial.

Akpabio assured the public that FRSC in collaboration with other security agencies including the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Department of State Service have finalised all arrangement to ensure a successful burial ceremony.

He enjoins motorists and mourners’ travelling for the burial to drive with caution and maintain all road safety rules and regulations as no one has immunity against road crashes.
