Four arrested over murder of couple in Ogun

Police in Ogun have arrested four suspects allegedly in connection with the murder of a couple in Shagamu area of the state.

A statement on Wednesday by Ogun police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the couple was murdered on June 30.

The victims, James Olaosebikan, 72, and his wife, Esther, 68, were killed in their house at Km 54 Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Shagamu.

“The assailants according to their son one Joseph Olaosebikan who reported at Shagamu police station that the assailants accessed the house through the ceiling and macheted his parents to death,” Oyeyemi said.

“Upon the report, the Commissioner of Police Cp Bashir Makama gave a matching order to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Shagamu Division, Superintendent of Police Okiki Agunbiade to fish out the killers within the shortest possible time.”

The spokesperson added that three members of the gang – Ibrahim Uthman, Aba Abdulkareem, and Abdulhamid Ibrahim – were apprehended on July 12.

“On interrogation, they confessed been a robbery gang and that one of their member who is now at large invited them for the purpose of robbing the deceased as well as a nearby shop. But on getting to the house, they discovered that the couple recognised one of them, hence they matcheted them to death,” he said.

The spokesperson said the police commissioner had directed the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to take over the case for proper investigation.
