Four arrested over killing of 12 soldiers in Benue

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has confirmed the arrest of four persons in connection with the death of 12 soldiers at Bonta community in Konshisha Local Government Area of the state.

Mr Ortom told journalists on Monday after the state security council meeting that 10 out of the 13 weapons that were taken away from the slain soldiers have been recovered.

The governor said four persons which includes two traditional rulers, deputy chairman of Konshisha Sam Kave and the councillor of Mbatser/Mbaguaza Tersoo Mela have been arrested and handed over to the police over the incident.

He named the traditional rulers as the kindred head of Mbator Emmanuel Adegbenda, and the district head of Iwuarayam Unaha Koko.

Ortom maintained that they were handed over to the police to ensure that those who committed the crime were arrested and brought to justice.

It was learnt that the slain soldiers were on a peacekeeping mission in Bonta before they were gruesomely murdered.
