Former Hints Magazine editor Kayode Ajala marks one year of kidney transplant

Kayode Ajala

Kayode Ajala, former editor of the defunct Hints Magazine, published by Ibe Kachikwu, a former minister of state for petroleum, on Wednesday marked the one-year anniversary of his kidney transplant surgery.

Ajala was sometime ago diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease, resulting in highly-elevated urea and creatinine.

Media mogul Dele Momodu, businessman Femi Otedola and others played pivotal roles in Ajala’s treatment.

Ajala, an evangelist in the Celestial Church of Christ, penned a letter to Mr Momodu thanking him for his support and efforts in ensuring he (Ajala) got back on his feet.

“Today, it is exactly one year since I was wheeled into the twin theatre of the Zenith Medical and Kidney Centre, Abuja, where a kidney transplant surgery was carried out on me after eight months of surviving on thrice a week dialysis sessions. The surgery was successful for myself and the donor,” Ajala wrote in a letter published by Momodu on Instagram.

“I look back today and I come out in goose pimples as I remember the many close shaves with death in the eight months that I grappled with acute renal failure. My eyes swell with tears as I remember the pain, the anxiety and the uncertainty that became a part of my existence during that period.

“My countenance brightens and my face lights up with a smile when I remember you and the selfless role you played to pull me out of the valley of the shadow of death. I look for the right words to express my gratitude but I’m simply at a loss. All I can say is that my gratitude to you is eternal.”

The celebrated romance writer noted that he was thankful to God for another chance to live.

“It’s one year after today. Its twelve whole months post kidney transplant. I’m healthy, fit as a fiddle and I can confidently and joyously say, my life has been given back to me.

“As I mark this day with prayers and thanksgiving, I reach out to you and say, _THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU MORE. YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART,” Ajala added.
