First Baptist Church accused of land fraud of over N400,000

First Baptist Church, Kosofe parish, Lagos has been accused of swindling a woman, Olaitan Odetunde, of N400,000 which was supposed to be for two parcels of land.

Mrs Odetunde told Punchng.com that she made payments in four installments – N245,000, N50,000, N100,000 and N50,000.

The 60-year-old woman said she had not received the land 11 years after making payments.

“A woman who is a member of the church introduced me to the land scheme in 2008, and I told her that I was interested. She introduced me to someone that would collect the money for the parcels of land, but when the person was not available, I was asked to pay into the church’s account number. I paid a total of N400,000,” Odetunde said.

She also said the church’s pastors, elders and members of the land committee had been avoiding her since then.

However, when contacted by Punch correspondent, a member of the land committee, Yinka Amoo, said Odetunde had been contacted and that she was being awaited by the church to make an official demand for her money.

Odetunde denied being contacted, saying that she would have filed a suit if the church were not involved.
